Hello, everyone, and happy Monday (I know, I know, it’s a struggle). How was everyone’s weekend?
It’s time for the Project of the Week.
This is a piece I did a few weeks back. While studying anatomy in class, we were instructed to choose a part of the skeleton to focus on and draw. It’s filled in with an HB and B4 watercolour pencil. I then used a paintbrush dipped in water to smoothen out the lines I drew and add some contouring. When it was finished, I decided it seemed too bland. So, I started pulling out some colours. I originally wanted to have the colours dripping down from the fingertips, but the paper wasn’t big enough for that. So, I made a little colourful explosion from the fingers and let it drip down the sides of the paper (read: I blew on each one of the drops to get it to go in a certain direction until I got really lightheaded).
I’m really happy with how the piece turned out, and I would love to try using this technique again some time. I have coloured watercolour pencils at home, but no regular lead ones. I’m hoping to go on a big DeSerres haul in the next few months, so I’ll get some of them then.
Have you ever used watercolour pencils? How do you like them? Do you like them as pencils or paints more? Let me know in the comments!
I hope all of you have an amazing week!
